Blackwater Field is one of our favorite fields.  The facilities are new and provides challenging game play.  We encourage anyone new to the sport who’s looking for a great field to learn the ropes to come on out.

Price To Play: A

It cost 20 play which includes lunch or 40 to play plus rentals. Which includes a M4 or AK speed loader,1500 round ,face production and launch plus you can pay by Credit Card.

Safety: B

The field is new but they seem to have a good grip on safety on there field.

Field Size: C+

Blackwater Airsoft has 88 acres and they use about 41. Out of the 35 acres they use 15 are open and 26 are wooded

Game Play: C

They do a great job of coming up with scenarios for every week but they have a big problem starting on time due to not enough players or well just taking there time plus the games can be alittle  far apart.

Player Base: B+

There player base is up and down they may have a lot of first timers or new player one week or a good mix of new players and veterans.  So if you are new to the sport or just getting back into this is the field to play at.

General Impressions: A

They also have a real bathroom with A/C or heat.They also have many power outlets to recharge batteries. They have water and coke and some snacks you can buy.  BubbleHead airsoft store is set up there also so you can buy guns BB’s and gas

Bethel Park’s Airsoft field is located at Langley AFB’s Bethel Recreational Area. The park though run by the 1ST Force Support Squardon and is open to the public. The only real evidence it is operated by the USAF are the occasional Security Forces cruisers patrolling the park.

Bethel’s staff is mostly volunteer.  Despite this fact, the field is very professionally run and well organized.

Price To Play: A+

IT ONLY COSTS $5 to play Friday nights (yes they hose weekly night games) and $10 to play during the day on Saturdays and Sundays.  As an added plus you can pay by Credit Card. 

Safety: A

Bethel Park is one of the safest fields I have ever played at.  Honestly their list of rules are kind of a mile long.  However, you don’t open an extreme sport recreational area as part of a US Military Installation if you don’t put a focus on safety.  Here are some highlights of important things which differ from other Virginia fields.

Everyone has to register !
- No wrist band = no play !
- No one under the age of 10 is allowed to play.
- 10 to 12 may play but parent must be present during the whole game.
- 12 to 17 has to have a parent come in with them and sign a wavier form.
- 18+ also has to sign a wavier form.
- Full seal eye protection is required, and must be approved by staff before you can take the field.
- 16 and below must wear a full face mask.
- NO .12 gram BB’s Allowed in guns !! 
PLEASE , have an empty mag ready when chronoing so staff can load it with .20’s !!
   -  0 > 420: Full auto
   - 420 > 470: Semi-auto only with a ‘50 Minimum Engagement Distance(MED)
   - 470 > 500: Limited to bolt-action rifles and AEG’s with full-auto disabled with a MED of ‘75
- No one under the age of 14 can be within 15 foot of the CQC buildings
- No Green lasers! Red lasers are allowed.
 

Field Size: C

Bethel Airsoft is a large field however, the playable areas vary.  There is a large open area, small wooded area and a small CQC area.  The wooded area and CQC area are both enclosed in netting.  This is a nice feature to the field as spectators can watch in relative safety.   The park is surrounded by to the North and East, which allows for amphibious game play during larger operations. 

Game Play: B

Game play does get repetitive because of the restrictions of the small field.  The staff does work hard to present challenging and creative scenarios.

Player Base: C

The majority of the players at Bethel are younger.  This is a great entry level field which provides a diverse and safe environment.  I would suggest that more experienced players also give it a try as area’s like the CQC area and open field can present interesting tactical challenges to more experienced players.

General Impressions: B

The staff is always improving the field and game play.  These continued improvements along with Bethel’s commitment to safety make it a good field in our opinion.

Here’s a little information about the operation from the Bethel Airsoft Forum:

The Gali District in the newly independent republic of Abkhazia, one of many border towns guarded by Russian troops, is reported to have had a recent surge of russian troops. Suspected GRU soldiers have also been spotted helping train the newly established military units of Abkhazia. After a request from the Georgian government, a NATO peacekeeping force has been sent to strengthen the georgian army as tensions rise; an action Russia cites as an act of aggression towards both Abkhazia and South Ossetia. The Kremlin is stating that the increase of NATO troops is not to keep peace, but rather a build-up of troops on the borders for an attack. The Kremlin couldn’t have been more right…… 

David, and I and Chris and Carson from Blackwater Airsoft all had a great time fighting for the Abkhazia independance force.  We were rollplaying as Private Military Contractors, and I have to say we put up one heck of a fight!  Here’s a team photo of the Abkhazia forces just before the night op.

Ballahack Field is a premier MilSim style field in the Hampton Roads area.  The facilities very impressive and have features few other fields in the country have.  Because of this they draw many experienced players week after week.  The one down side of this of course is that younger or newer players have a tendency to be intimidated or pushed by the way side when it comes to advanced tactics execution and planning.  On our rating scale here’s how they flesh out.

OVERALL RATING: a solid B+

Price To Play: B-

It cost $15 play and they do not have rentals at this time. They have BB’s sometimes, they did have some the day we reviewed.

Safety: A

They are very big on safety.  If you remove your eye protection in a game or on the field even if it is very fogged up, you will be asked to leave the facility the fields.  You, are not allowed to have your magazine, or weapon loaded in any fashion until you cross their “play line”.

Field Size: B+

COMING SOON… But it is very large and diverse.  Parking however at the facility can be difficult with the number of players they draw, especially in the rain.

Game Play: B+

They open up at 9am.   They have great scenarios for the experienced player or avid Mil-Simmer.   They keep the game play going all day long with not to much time in between.  However some of their objective based missions can proved extremely challenging to new players.  This leaves mean new players being eliminated early in missions and either sitting from the side lines watching, or taking the long dead rag march to the re-spawn point.

Player Base: A-

They have one of the larges player base that plays on a weekly bases.  They seem get 50-80+ players each week and they are primarily 18+ years old and have been playing airsoft for sometime.

General Impressions: B

They have a port-o-potty for your bathroom needs.  They also have a few power outlets to recharge batteries.  They have water you can buy and large sitting/ load out area which has fans. They have a small range to site in your gun, however I do not know what the range is I would estimate it is near 50 feet.
